Invited Talk: "AI, Automation & Job Market: Threat or Opportunity?"

The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized an invited talk on the topic “AI, Automation & the Job Market: Threat or Opportunity?” on 23rd January 2026 at Charles Babbage Hall. The event aimed to explore the implications of artificial intelligence and automation on the modern job market, analyzing whether these technological advancements represent a threat to employment or an opportunity for professional growth and innovation.The talk was delivered by Ms. Thulasi Soubhari, a Personal Counselling and Guidance Trainer from Amrita University. With extensive experience in personal counseling and career guidance, Ms. Soubhari provided insights on the evolving role of AI in workplaces, the skills needed to adapt to automation, and strategies to leverage technological advancements for career development.
The invited talk successfully bridged the knowledge gap between emerging technologies and their real-world implications for employment. By combining expert insights with interactive discussions, the event empowered students and faculty to critically assess AI’s role in shaping future careers and to identify strategies to thrive in an evolving job market.The event was coordinated by Mrs. Haseena Jasmine C. K. Assistant Professor of Commerce, and Ms. Nishiya K Nazeer, a sixth-semester B. Com Co-operation student.
