Korambayil Ahamed Haji Unity Women’s College, Manjeri was established in 1991 and is run by Muslim Educational and Cultural Association (MECA), a registered society and as the first women’s educational institution in the field of higher education in Malappuram district in Kerala. The college was founded by the visionary, Janab Korambayil Ahamed Haji. He envisioned the institution as a center based on the values of integrity and social commitment, promoting learning and culture.The college strives to produce intellectually competent, morally upright, and spiritually inspired citizens, while promoting learning and culture in the service of the nation.
Formed under the Muslim Educational and Cultural Association (MECA) in 1991, Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women’s College Manjeri was the first women’s educational institution in the higher education sector of Malappuram District.

Korambayil Ahamed Haji, former Secretary of Kerala State Muslim League and the founder of Unity Women’s College was known as a ‘gentle man politician’. He was not only a politician, but also a lover of art, games, sports, football in particular, and literature, who represented Mankada and Kuttippuram constituencies in Kerala Assembly. A deputy speaker once, he was later elected to Rajya Sabha. As a recognition of his services to the Mappila art & literature, he was awarded ‘Kalaprathiba Rathnam’. It was during his tenure as chairman that the dream of Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Smarakam materialized. Having a long association with Hidayathul Muslimeen Sabha, Manjeri, as general secretary, he was the president of Manjeri Central Mahallu. He was the secretary of Mampad College which was later handed over to MES. In 1991, his dream of founding an Arts & Science college for women in Manjeri was fulfilled when Unity Women’s College was inaugurated by Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal at a function chaired by Dr. T. K. Raveendran, the then Vice-chancellor of Calicut University. He was the president of Muslim Educational and Cultural Association as well as the Manager of Unity Women’s College. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the college, the institution was later renamed in his honor. A memorial speech is held in each year on 18th December and celebrated as Foundation Day.
FOUNDER GENERAL SECRETARY
Jb. Hassan Mahmood Kurikkal was the founder General Secretary of Unity Women’s College, who was then the President of Malappuram District Council. Born in the Kurikkal family of Manjeri, he had his UG education at Farook College and LLB from Aligarh Muslim University.
Opting legal practice in Manjeri, he later became a full-time politician, and eventually became the Municipal Chairman and also the first and last president of Malappuram District Council. Falling sick during his presidency, bedridden for about 15 years, his strong will and compassion kept him strong enough to be significantly involved in solving people’s problems. His was the last word in Manjeri politics, especially in the coalition politics. He served Unity College as its first General Secretary for about two decades.
