Unity Women’s College Marks 79th Independence Day with Colourful Celebrations

K.A.H.M. Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with vibrant patriotic fervour at the C.H. Auditorium on Thursday morning. The programme, jointly organised by the Department of History, NSS, NCC, EBSB, and Zelinda Students’ Union, was presided over by Dr. Fousi K, Principal in charge.The celebrations were formally inaugurated by renowned thinker, orator, and writer KEN Kunhahamed, who in his address reflected on the real meaning of freedom. He urged the audience to recognise that freedom is not merely a historic achievement but an ongoing struggle—one that demands courage to fight for justice, ensure that every voice is heard, and stand united against all forms of oppression.As part of the festivities, the winners of the Quiz Competition and Patriotic Song Competition were honoured during the prize distribution ceremony. In the Patriotic Song Competition, the Department of Mathematics secured first place, followed by the Department of Psychology in second place, and the Department of History in third. In the Quiz Competition (based on the Freedom Struggle and General Knowledge), the Department of Chemistry bagged first prize, the Department of English second, and the Department of Computer Science third.Felicitations were offered by Engineer O. Abdul Ali (College Manager), Dr. Usman A. (President, Staff Club), Yousuf Vallanjira (NTS Representative), and Ms. Amal Shah (UUC, Zelinda Students’ Union).The cultural segment featured a skit, a patriotic dance, and a powerful mime performance by the NSS team. A rousing patriotic song by competition winners brought the celebrations to a close, filling the hall with the spirit of freedom and unity.Mr. Shabeermon M, Coordinator and Head of the Department of History, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Haris U, NSS Coordinator and Head of the Department of Computer Science, proposed the vote of thanks.
