Calicut University Four Year Undergraduate Programme (CU-FYUGP)

The Calicut University Four Year Undergraduate Programme (CU-FYUGP), commenced in the academic year 2024-25, represents a significant shift in Kerala’s higher education landscape. Approved by the Academic Council and supported by the Kerala State Higher Education Council, this program integrates lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, and project-based learning to provide a comprehensive educational experience. The curriculum is designed to enhance understanding in chosen fields and prepare students for the job market through a structured credit system, which includes single major, major with multiple disciplines, major with minor, major with Vocational minor and double major pathways. The program emphasizes outcome based education, aligning educational outcomes with industry requirements and societal needs.

 

Each undergraduate program will be monitored by a CUFYUGP committee to ensure quality control and adherence to the regulations. CU-FYUGP features a distinct credit structure for its three types of degrees. For the three year UG Degree, students are required to complete a minimum of 133 credits, which includes a combination of core, elective, and internship courses. The four year UG Degree (Honours) necessitates a total of 177 credits, incorporating additional coursework and an optional graduate project in the Major discipline. Students pursuing the four year UG Degree (Honours with Research) must also complete 177 credits, but this includes a mandatory graduate research project, emphasizing research skills and academic rigor. This structured credit system ensures that students engage in a comprehensive educational experience tailored to their academic and professional aspirations. The CU-FYUGP curriculum includes General Foundation Courses, Discipline-Specific Pathway Courses, and Capstone Components, promoting critical thinking, communication, and interdisciplinary knowledge. Elective courses provide flexibility, allowing students to explore diverse interests. Overall, the CU-FYUGP aims to provide students with the tools and experiences necessary for success in their future endeavours.
