International Mother Language Day Celebration – 2026

The Department of Malayalam at KAHM Unity Women’s College organized the International Mother Language Day celebration on 23 February 2026, in connection with International Mother Language Day observed on 21 February. The programme aimed to promote awareness of the importance of mother tongue, linguistic heritage, and cultural identity.The event was inaugurated by Dr. V. Hikmathulla, Head of the Department of Malayalam, who delivered an insightful address highlighting the role of language in shaping thought, culture, and identity, and emphasized the need to preserve and promote native languages.A “Nimisha Prasangam” (Minute Speech) competition was conducted, in which five students presented speeches on topics selected by lot, demonstrating confidence and effective communication skills. A quiz competition based on language, literature, culture, and general knowledge was also organized, with enthusiastic student participation.The programme was conducted under the leadership of Arifa Beegum, Department of Malayalam. Nidha Nasri (IV Semester English) served as the Student Coordinator. The celebration concluded successfully, reinforcing the significance of mother tongue and inspiring students to value their linguistic and cultural heritage
