OVERVIEW

The department began functioning on December 18th, 1991, and has since been actively involved in a wide range of both career-oriented and non-career programs at the college.

DEPARTMENT AT A GLANCE

The notable achievement of the year 2016-17 was the enactment of C. J. Thomas' experimental play Crime 27 in 1128. Students from various departments brought the text to life under the direction of Mr. G.C. Karakkal, a prominent dramatist and social activist, on August 3, 2016. The drama was an adaptation of the play of the same name, which was part of the syllabus for the 3rd semester BA BSc courses during the academic year 2014-2017.

A CD of the play was released on September 22, 2017, at Govt. College, Malappuram, by Dr. N. Rajan. The CD was distributed to numerous colleges as supplementary study material for 3rd semester language courses.

Additionally, three Subhashitham programs, each lasting five minutes, were broadcast on All India Radio, Manjeri, on November 15th, 16th, and 17th, 2018.

A UGC-sponsored national seminar, "Education in the Mother Tongue: Scope and Significance," was jointly conducted by the English and Malayalam departments on July 28th, 29th, and 30th, 2015.

An intercollegiate Mappilappattu competition was held on February 16, 2022, and a manuscript magazine named Nellikka (2021-22) was published.

Our students have also published articles in the online magazine Mukham.

Nurture students’ communication and creative writing skills.

Familiarize with administrative terminology and usages.
