Alumni Entrepreneurs’ Skill Workshop – 1 on Cake Baking

The Innovation and Incubation Centre of the PG Department of Home Science, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized the Alumni Entrepreneurs’ Skill Workshop – 1 on Cake Baking as a Christmas special programme on 18 December 2025 at the Nutrition Lab. The programme aimed to enhance students’ practical baking skills, promote entrepreneurial thinking, and support the Earn While Learn initiative through active alumni involvement.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Lt. Loosiya KP, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), PG Department of Home Science and Faculty Coordinator. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Jyothi P, Associate Professor and Head, PG and Research Department of Chemistry, who emphasized the importance of alumni-supported skill development programmes. Dr. N. V. Fatimathu Zuhara, Assistant Professor and Head, PG Department of Home Science, appreciated the alumnae for organizing the skill-oriented workshop and highlighted its role in fostering entrepreneurship among students. The programme was also visited by Er. O. Abdul Ali, Manager, who interacted with the participants and appreciated the department’s efforts.
The resource persons, Ms. Faiza T, Founder of Butterlish Desserts, and Ms. Shamna UP, Founder of Sugarbloom_cakes, alumnae of the BSc FCS (2011–14 batch), conducted hands-on training covering cake batter preparation, sponge making, whipping cream, icing, frosting, and basic cake decoration. Students actively participated in the practical sessions and worked in pairs. As part of the Christmas special programme, plum cakes and brownies were prepared. A total of 11 cakes were prepared.
Some of the cakes were sold within the college campus on 19 December 2025, providing students with real-time exposure to Earn While Learn activities. Eighteen students from various departments, along with faculty members, participated in the workshop.
The session concluded with feedback from students and a vote of thanks by the student coordinator, Ms. Hana Shihab NK, II Semester BSc FCS. E-certificates were issued to all participants. The programme was highly successful in enhancing practical skills, building student confidence, strengthening alumni–institution interaction, and promoting income-generating skills among students.
