World Environment Day - ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ - Awareness and Pledge

The PG Department of Home Science observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. The program aimed to raise awareness about the hazards of plastic pollution and promote the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives among students. Dr. N.V. Fatimathu Zuhara, Assistant Professor and Head, PG Department of Home Science, shared the importance of World Environment Day, highlighting the issues of plastic pollution, single-use plastic, and the need for an eco-friendly lifestyle. Following the awareness session, Dr. N.V. Fatimathu Zuhara led the pledge, and the students took the ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastic’ pledge as part of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's initiative. The program was attended by 3rd Sem BSc FCS and 2nd Sem MSc Home Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) students and department faculty members. The program resulted in increased awareness about the hazards of plastic pollution, promotion of eco-friendly alternatives, and a sense of responsibility towards protecting the environment among students, ultimately inspiring them to adopt environmentally conscious behaviors and reduce single-use plastic usage. Lt. Loosiya KP, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), and Ms. Muhsina (2nd Sem MSc Home Science (Nutrition and Dietetics)) served as faculty and student coordinators, respectively.
