Visit to Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery, Kannur

The IV and II Semester MSc Home Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) students visited the Malabar Cancer Centre - Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research (MCC-PGIOSR), Thalassery, Kannur on 18th February 2025, as part of their curriculum. MCC-PGIOSR is an autonomous institution under the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Kerala. The aim of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the role of nutrition in cancer treatment. The objective was to educate students on the various departments and treatments available at MCC-PGIOSR and emphasize the significance of nutrition in cancer care.
During the visit, Mrs. Reena C, Dietitian at MCC, explained the various departments, their roles, and the importance of nutrition in cancer treatment and prevention. Students also visited the different departments involved in treatments, gaining a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. The visit was a valuable learning experience, and the outcome was an enhanced understanding of the importance of nutrition in patient recovery.
A total of 28 students and two faculty members participated in the visit. Lt. Loosiya KP, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), and Ms. Fathima Safa (IV Sem MSc Home Science - Nutrition & Dietetics) served as the faculty and student coordinators, respectively.
