VISIT TO BHOODAN POCHAMALLY WEAVING VILLAGE.
As part of the curriculum, the final year BSc. Family and Community Science students of the PG Department of Home Science organized a visit to the renowned Bhoodan Pochamally Weaving Village on 4th of January 2025 .The objective was to provide the students an exposure to traditional Indian weaving.
Pochampally and the cluster of many villages in Yadadri- Bhuvanagiri District of Telengana are renowned for world famous Ikat designs and dress materials.Ikat is a technique of weaving where the design patterns are dyed on the yarn before weaving the fabric. Pochampally Ikat sarees are popular globally for their smooth texture and light weight nature. The students observed the entire dyeing and weaving process, from yarn preparation to finished products such as sarees and fabrics. Students interacted with the local artisans learning about their experiences and challenges. The visit to Bhoodan Pochamally was a valuable learning experience for our students. It provided them with a unique opportunity to witness traditional Indian weaving techniques and appreciate the cultural significance of preserving traditional crafts.
