VISIT TO BHOODAN POCHAMALLY WEAVING VILLAGE.

As part of the curriculum, the final year BSc. Family and Community Science students  of the PG Department of Home Science organized a visit to the renowned Bhoodan Pochamally Weaving Village on 4th of January 2025 .The objective was to provide the students an exposure to traditional Indian  weaving.
Pochampally and the cluster of  many villages in Yadadri- Bhuvanagiri District of Telengana are renowned  for world famous Ikat designs and dress materials.Ikat is a technique of weaving where the design patterns are dyed on the yarn before  weaving the fabric. Pochampally Ikat sarees are popular globally for their smooth texture and light weight  nature. The students  observed the entire dyeing  and weaving process, from yarn preparation to finished products  such as sarees and fabrics. Students  interacted with the local artisans  learning about their experiences and challenges. The visit to Bhoodan Pochamally  was a valuable  learning  experience  for our students. It provided them with  a unique opportunity to witness traditional  Indian weaving techniques and appreciate the cultural significance of preserving  traditional  crafts.
