COMMUNITY NUTRITION CAMP
The PG Department of Home Science successfully organized a Community Nutrition Camp as part of curriculum from 11th December 2024 to 15th December 2024 on the topic: “Assessment of Socioeconomic Factors, Food Availability, Nutritional and Health Practices among the Tribal Population of Pulliyil (25-65 years), Karulai.”The objectives of the camp was to assess the dietary intake, food availability, and health status of the tribal population. The camp was conducted by II Semester M.Sc. Home Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) students, with a total of 100 samples collected for the study.The camp was formally inaugurated by Mr. Suresh Kumar, Vice President of Pulliyil panchayat.
Through clinical examinations, it was observed that a significant portion of the population exhibited signs of Vitamin A deficiency and anaemia. To address these concerns, awareness classes and an exhibition were conducted at Pulliyil Anganwadi.
The sessions aimed to educate the community on the importance of Vitamin A-rich foods and iron-containing foods for preventing and managing these deficiencies.Additionally, personalized sessions were conducted in individual households to ensure better understanding and to encourage the adoption of healthier nutritional practices within the community.
