The PG & Research Department of Botany, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized an algal collection trip to Thikodi as part of the M.Sc. Botany curriculum on 13 January 2026. The primary objective of the trip was to provide students with hands-on experience in identification, classification and herbarium preparation of algae prescribed in their syllabus. During the field trip, students collected various algal specimens from the intertidal zone for systematic study and herbarium preparation. Students identified and documented different algal genera including Ulva, Padina, Gracillaria, Dictyota, Sargassum, Champia, and different species of Caulerpa. The trip also fostered an appreciation for conserving costal algal diversity. The collected materials were mounted on herbarium sheets and the remaining materials were preserved in formalin solution for academic reference. The program coordinated by Dr. Faseela P. and Ms. Husna Banu, whose guidance and supervision ensured that the trip was both educational and memorable for all participants.
