Agricultural Research Station Visit

  • KAHM Unity Women's College, Manjeri
  • 23 Oct / 2025

The PG and Research Department of Botany organized a study visit to the Agricultural Research Station (ARS), Kerala Agricultural University, Anakkayam P.O., Malappuram, on 23rd October 2025 for the First Semester B.Sc. Botany (Honours) students. The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to modern agricultural research practices and to deepen their understanding of plant sciences through direct field observations. During the visit, students explored various research and cultivation facilities at the station. They observed the vermicompost unit, which illustrated the sustainable recycling of organic waste for soil enrichment. The orchidarium offered valuable insights into orchid cultivation and conservation methods, while the tissue culture laboratory introduced students to advanced micropropagation techniques used for plant improvement and preservation. Students also examined different varieties of Anacardium occidentale (cashew) developed at the station and learned about innovative horticultural practices aimed at enhancing crop yield and quality. Moreover, they had the opportunity to observe rare and endangered plant species, which emphasized the significance of biodiversity conservation and the protection of native flora. The study visit was a highly enriching and informative experience, effectively bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application. It inspired students to value the role of agricultural research in promoting sustainable development and advancing plant science. The visit coordinated by Dr. Deepa P. and Ms. Rinshida of the PG and Research Department of Botany.
