Creating Living Landscapes: A Terrarium-Making Experience

The PG and Research Department of Botany organized a hands-on training session on Terrarium Preparation titled “Creating Living Landscapes: A Terrarium-Making Experience” on 8th October 2025. The session conducted by the First Semester B.Sc. Botany (Honours) students with the objective of providing them with practical exposure to sustainable indoor gardening techniques and plant care. During the training, students designed and assembled both open and closed terrariums using essential materials such as glass containers, soil mixtures, pebbles, moss and decorative elements. A variety of plant species suitable for terrarium environments were carefully selected and artistically arranged. The activity enabled students to understand the ecological principles behind self-sustaining miniature ecosystems while also developing an appreciation for the aesthetic aspects of plant arrangement. The participants exhibited keen interest, creativity and enthusiasm throughout the session. This experiential learning activity not only enhanced their practical skills but also fostered environmental awareness and a deeper appreciation of plant diversity. The program coordinated by Dr. Deepa P. and Ms. Anusree M., whose guidance and support contributed to the successful conduct of the event.
