Nature walk - Pathway to Green

On 13th August 2025, PG and Research Department of Botany at KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized an enriching nature walk titled ‘Pathway to Green’ exclusively for the First Semester B.Sc. Botany Honours students. This initiative was designed with the primary objective of enhancing the observational skills of the students and deepening their understanding of the rich plant diversity present within the college campus.
The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the purpose of the walk, highlighting the importance of first-hand observation in the study of Botany. During the walk, Dr. Deepa P., Assistant Professor Adhoc, provided detailed explanations of different plant groups including aquatic flowering plants, ferns, bryophytes and angiosperms. The discussion included the key morphological characteristics, ecological roles and the unique adaptations that allow them to thrive in specific habitats. The session also included discussions on the ecological significance of these plants, their contribution to the overall biodiversity of the campus and the vital role they play in maintaining environmental balance. Students encouraged to observe minute details such as leaf arrangement, venation patterns, reproductive structures and growth habits, thereby fostering a keen eye for botanical observation.
The nature walk proved to be both engaging and informative, offering students an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world examples. Beyond the academic benefits, the programme instilled a sense of responsibility toward biodiversity conservation and nurtured an appreciation for the natural heritage of the campus. By the end of the event, the participants expressed enthusiasm and a renewed curiosity to explore plant life with a scientific and conservation-oriented approach.
