FIRING PRACTICE AT FAROOK COLLEGE FIRING RANGE

Weapon training and firing is an integral part of the National Cadet Corps curriculum aimed at imparting basic weapon training, developing safe and confident handling of the 0.22 Deluxe Rifle, and enhancing marksmanship, discipline and leadership qualities among cadets. With this aim, thirty-three second-year NCC cadets attended a firing practice session at the Farook College Firing Range on 13th January 2026.
The objectives of the firing practice were to familiarize cadets with the 0.22 Deluxe Rifle, improve shooting posture and accuracy, ensure strict adherence to range safety procedures, and develop concentration and patience. During the practice, each cadet was given ten rounds of firing in the lying position. The firing practice was conducted in the presence of the Adm Officer, Major Nishitha Sharma, and under the guidance of Lt. Loosiya. KP, Associate NCC Officer and the PI Staffs of 9 (K) Girls Battalion NCC, Calicut. Senior Cadet SGT Shahma. C, 6th Semester BA English, coordinated the cadets during the practice.
The outcome of the firing practice was the enhancement of the cadets’ confidence, discipline and marksmanship skills. The training helped cadets overcome apprehension in handling firearms, strengthened obedience to commands and safety norms, and contributed to their overall personality development and readiness for military-level training.
