The Debate Club and Media Club of KAHM Unity Women's College, Manjeri, jointly organized a Table Talk on Changing Dynamics of Teacher-Pupil Relationships on 21 February 2025 at Aryabhata Hall. The event, held on Friday, was moderated by P. Muhammedali, Coordinator and Assistant Professor, PG Department of English. The discussion featured three panellists from both the teachers’ and students’ sides, fostering a balanced and insightful exchange of perspectives.
The session commenced with the moderator introducing the panellists and providing a brief overview of the topic. Representing the teachers, Dr. Jyothi P., Head, Department of Chemistry; Jaseena C., Assistant Professor, Department of History; and Muhammed Abdul Hakeem C., Head, Department of Physics, shared their insights on the evolving nature of teacher-student relationships. Drawing from their academic and personal experiences, they discussed how changing social and educational environments have influenced these dynamics.
From the student community, Fathima Thasni (VI Sem B.A. History), Fathima Liyana C.T.P. (VI Sem B.A. English), and Shahana K. (VI Sem B.Sc. Chemistry) articulated their perspectives on their expectations from teachers. They emphasized that educators should serve as role models, embodying values that inspire and guide students. The student representatives collectively asserted that an ideal teacher is approachable, open-minded, and empathetic, fostering an environment of mutual respect and support. They also highlighted that personal and professional challenges should not affect a teacher’s relationship with students.
Following the presentations, the panellists engaged with questions from the audience, leading to a thought-provoking discussion on the significance of mutual respect in teacher-student interactions. Faculty members, Debate Club and Media Club members, and students actively participated, contributing diverse viewpoints that enriched the dialogue. The event successfully provided a platform for constructive discourse, offering valuable perspectives on fostering a healthy and respectful teacher-pupil relationship within academic institutions.
