ELAYNE Movie screening and analysis. “A Beautiful Mind: A Journey into Schizophrenia”

On Friday, October 13, 2023 the Department of Psychology organized a program to commemorate Mental Health Day exclusively for students of the Psychology Department. The event, which included screening of the movie “A Beautiful Mind” aimed to raise awareness about schizophrenia and provide students with insights into the disorder through an in-depth analysis of the movie.

The event kicked off with a screening of the critically acclaimed movie ‘A Beautiful Mind,’ directed by Ron Howard and based on the true story of John Nash, a brilliant mathematician who suffered from schizophrenia. The film portrayed the life and struggles of John Nash as he faced the challenges posed by his mental health condition while making significant contributions to the field of mathematics.

Following the screening, two students from the Psychology Department, Rida Hassan and Fiza Thamanna, delivered an in-depth analysis of the movie. Their analysis focused on how the film depicted various characteristics and aspects of schizophrenia, offering valuable insights into the disorder. Rida and Fiza highlighted key scenes and moments in the movie that effectively portrayed the challenges, hallucinations, and interpersonal difficulties faced by individuals with schizophrenia.

The event provided a platform for students to learn about schizophrenia, a complex mental health condition, through the medium of cinema.

The thought-provoking analysis, allowed participants to connect cinematic representations with the real-life experiences of individuals with schizophrenia.
