One-day national seminar on “Matter and Memory: Exploring the Intersection in Literary and Cultural Studies”
Fourteen first year MA students from the PG Department of English, Unity Women’s College participated in the RUSA-funded one-day national seminar on “Matter and Memory: Exploring the Intersection in Literary and Cultural Studies” organised by the PG and Research Department of English at Farook College (Autonomous) Kozhikode, on 12th December 2023. Dr. Aysha Swapna KA, the Principal, inaugurated the event, setting the stage for an intellectual exploration. The keynote speaker, Dr. Avishek Parui, assistant professor from the Department of Humanities at IIT Madras and an ardent researcher of memory studies delivered an insightful talk on “Literature and Memory Studies: The Interdisciplinary Intersections”, providing profound insights into the intricate relationship between literature and memory. The second session was led by Dr. Rukhaya Muhammad Kunhi, a poet, critic, and assistant professor at Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhagad, bringing a fresh perspective with the topic “Redefining Facticity: Algorithm as Memory” and captivating the audience with thought-provoking ideas about digital based memory in modern world. Dr. Umer Thasneem, assistant professor of the Department of English, Calicut University, delivered a brilliant talk titled “Never Mind, Whatever the Matter: Revisiting the Chicken and Egg Question in Modern Context”, adding a layer of scientific depth to the seminar’s discussions. The seminar was also a platform for scholars across various institutions and disciplines to explore the topics from various perspectives.
