Library User Orientation
The Shihab Thangal Library and Information Centre at KAHM Unity Women’s College organized a Library Orientation Session for first-year undergraduate students on July 14, 2025, at the C.H. Auditorium.
Mr. Shabeermon, Head of the History Department and FYUGP Coordinator, opened the session with a brief address on the importance of library literacy in the revised academic framework.
The Library orientation was led by Mr. Yunus T. P., UGC Librarian, who provided a comprehensive overview of the library’s resources, services, and facilities. Students were introduced to the use of printed books, reference materials, digital tools, and research support services. The session also highlighted access to major academic platforms and consortia such as the DELNET, N-LIST, National Digital Library of India (NDLI), and the DSpace Digital Library Repository, which collectively offer a broad range of scholarly content. In addition, students were familiarized with borrowing procedures, membership guidelines, user responsibilities, and the use of the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for efficient resource discovery.
The orientation aimed to equip students with the necessary skills to navigate and utilize the library effectively in their academic journey. Students from all undergraduate departments attended the session.
