Herbarium is a repository of dried, pressed and systematically named plant materials mounted on herbarium sheets bearing detailed data label that can be used for ready reference. Herbarium is an invaluable conservatory of plant material and data and serves as a fundamental resource for identification, nomenclature, and classification of plants. It greatly aids in all kinds of taxonomic researches and serves as a source for biodiversity collections. A well-maintained herbarium is an asset to the Department of Botany at our college. It has a fine collection of preserved plant specimens and associated data which is used for scientific study. The specimens are used as reference material in describing the plant taxa and types. Thus, for the effective studies on floristic surveys an excellent collection of preserved plant specimens is available in the existing herbarium of the department.
