Republic Day Lecture Highlights Constitutional Values

The Department of History of K.A.H.M Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organised a Republic Day Special Invited Lecture titled “India @77: The Journey of a Vibrant Democracy” on Monday evening at 7.00 PM ( January 26, 2026) through Google Meet. The programme was conducted as part of the Republic Day observances of the Department of History.
Delivering the invited lecture, Dr. Abdul Rasheed K, Assistant Professor of History, PSMO College, Tirurangadi, offered a thought-provoking reflection on the idea of nationalism in contemporary India. He clearly distinguished between nationalism and aggressive nationalism, cautioning against ideologies that undermine democratic and pluralistic values. Emphasising a humanistic approach to patriotism, he underlined the role of the Indian Constitution in safeguarding the rights and dignity of all citizens. Highlighting the responsibility of the younger generation, Dr. Rasheed called upon students to actively uphold constitutional principles in their everyday lives. The programme was presided over by the College Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Muhammed Basheer Ummathur. Mr. Faizal T.K., Assistant Professor of History and Coordinator of the programme, welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Afeeha Sulthana, second year B.A. History student, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was attended by students and faculty members of the department.
