Official Report on Study Trip

  • 25 Oct / 2025

The Department of History organized a one-day study trip for the first-year B.A. History students to Wayanad on 25th October 2025 (Saturday). The trip was planned with the objective of providing students with a practical understanding of history through direct observation and field experience.

The journey began early in the morning from the college campus. The first destination was Thirunelli Temple, one of the most ancient temples in Kerala, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Students observed the architectural features and learned about the temple’s historical and cultural significance. The temple’s connection with ancient trade routes and its mention in various historical records were discussed in detail.

The next visit was to the Edakkal Caves, famous for their prehistoric rock engravings. Students had the opportunity to closely view the carvings that date back to the Neolithic period. This visit helped them understand the lifestyle, art, and communication methods of prehistoric people. The cave visit provided valuable insight into early human settlement in the Wayanad region.

The final stop was Karapuzha Dam, one of the largest earth dams in Kerala. Students observed the structure and learned about its construction, purpose, and role in irrigation and tourism development in Wayanad.

The trip was both educational and enjoyable. It helped students connect theoretical knowledge with practical observation. The experience strengthened their understanding of Kerala’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
