"Addiction Among Students"

The Department of History of K.A.H.M Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized an awareness session on “Addiction Among Students – Addiction Steals Freedom” on 25th September 2025 at Captain Lakshmi Hall. The program was coordinated by Dr. Shiji K.P (Faculty Coordinator, Department of History) along with Gopika C.P (Student Coordinator, 3rd Semester B.A. History).
The session was led by Ms. Maneesha K.P, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. She delivered a detailed and insightful talk on various forms of addictions that are increasingly affecting students today. The discussion highlighted not only substance-related addictions like alcohol, drugs, and smoking but also behavioral addictions such as excessive use of mobile phones, online gaming, social media, shopping, and other compulsive habits that negatively impact students’ academic performance, physical health, and mental well-being.
Following the lecture, an interactive session was conducted where students actively participated and shared their views and personal observations on the growing issues of addiction among youth. Several students emphasized the importance of self-control, time management, and seeking proper guidance to overcome addictive behaviors.
Overall, the session proved to be highly beneficial in spreading awareness and guiding students toward leading a balanced and addiction-free life.
