Invited Talk on “Intellectual Property Laws in India”

The Department of Commerce, in association with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organised an invited talk on “Intellectual Property Laws in India” on 21 November 2025. The programme aimed to enhance students’ understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the legal mechanisms that protect innovation and creativity.
The function began with a welcome address by Mrs. Haseena Jasmine C. K., Assistant Professor of Commerce. The session was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Fathima Shajitha, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, who emphasised the importance of familiarising students with emerging legal aspects related to intellectual property.
The invited talk was delivered by Adv. Abdurahman Karatt, President, Block Panchayath, Malappuram, and Lecturer in Law, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri. He provided deep insights into various categories of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, geographical indications, industrial designs, and trade secrets. He also explained the relevance of IPR in the contemporary knowledge-driven economy and highlighted how legal protection encourages invention, entrepreneurship, and fair competition.
The session concluded with an expression of gratitude as Ms. Saniya Puthusseri, Fourth Semester B.Com Co-operation, rendered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the resource person, faculty members, and participants for making the programme successful.
