  • Divyangjan Policy

The institution is dedicated to upholding the guidelines established in the national policy for persons with disabilities, formulated by the Government of India in February 2006. This policy is committed to ensuring equal opportunities, protection of rights, and the full participation of differently- abled individuals in all academic activities. Our institution values the contributions of differently-abled people and strives to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors. The college's overarching goals are to foster an atmosphere that is welcoming, accessible, and conducive to the personal and academic growth of individuals with disabilities. We are committed to making the necessary accommodations to support their physical, social, and academic needs.

Key Objectives and Practices:

·Accessible Physical and Virtual Environments: Ensure that the entire campus, including classrooms, auditoriums, libraries, and virtual platforms, is accessible to all individuals, regardless of physical ability.

·Barrier-Free Recruitment and Admission: Design recruitment and admission processes that do not create unnecessary barriers for differently- abled students or staff.

·Support for Differently-Abled Staff and Students: Provide personalized assistance to differently-abled members of the college community, ensuring their integration and equal participation in all activities.

·Confidential Disability Disclosure: Create a safe environment for individuals to disclose their disabilities while maintaining strict confidentiality and respect for their privacy.

·Collaboration to Identify Support Needs: Work closely with differently- abled individuals to assess and fulfill their specific support needs in a manner that respects their autonomy and preferences

·Ongoing Support: Ensure that the support systems for staff and students with disabilities are reviewed regularly and adapted to remain relevant and effective.

·Career Development Support: Make sure the career development processes, including counseling, internships, and placement services, cater to the needs of differently-abled individuals.

·Accessible Building Design: All campus buildings, including classrooms, administrative offices, and facilities, should feature ramps, wide doorways, and elevators, ensuring access for wheelchair users and those with mobility impairments.

·          Barrier-Free Washrooms: Provide gender-friendly, safe, accessible, and functional washrooms for differently-abled individuals, equipped with grab rails, wide doors, and sufficient space for maneuvering.

·Tactile Paths and Signage: Ensure the installation of tactile paths, appropriate lighting, and clear signage (including text and pictograms) across the campus to assist those with visual impairments and mobility challenges.

·Accessible Toilets: Toilets for differently-abled individuals should be equipped with iron or steel handles along the walls to offer support, allowing them to use the facilities comfortably. Additionally, there should be designated toilets specifically for differently-abled persons.

·Railing Support in Staircases and Ramps: Install iron or steel railings along staircases and ramps, providing essential support for those with mobility difficulties. This includes ramps to facilities like bus stands, where steep inclines may present challenges.

·Assistive Technologies in Classrooms: Equip classrooms and learning spaces with assistive technologies to support differently-abled learners, both within and outside the classroom. This includes specialized resources, audio-visual aids, and software tools that cater to various disabilities.

·Software Tools and Accessibility Aids: Provide access to accessible software, screen readers, and other digital tools that enable differently- abled students to participate fully in academic activities.

·Human Assistance and Support Resources: Ensure the availability of human assistance, including readers, writers, and aides, to support differently-abled students during exams, lectures, and other academic requirements. Provide soft copies of reading material for screen-reading purposes.

·Training and Sensitization Programs: Regularly organize training sessions and awareness programs to educate staff and students on the importance of inclusivity and sensitization towards the needs of differently-abled individuals.

·Transport Facilities: Provide accessible transportation options within the campus and for field trips or external events, ensuring that all students can participate without physical barriers.

·Accessible Parking: Designate specific parking areas for differently-abled individuals near the main entrances of buildings to ensure ease of access.

·Emergency Evacuation Procedures: Implement emergency evacuation procedures that consider the needs of differently-abled individuals, ensuring their safety during crises.

·Feedback Mechanism: Establish a clear feedback and grievance mechanism to allow differently-abled students and staff to voice their concerns and suggestions for improving accessibility measures.

·          By implementing these policies and objectives, our institution reaffirms its commitment to creating an inclusive environment where disability is not seen as a barrier to learning or professional success.
