Elder Abuse Awareness Day Program

The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed globally on June 15th every year to raise public awareness about the elder abuse and neglect. This year, Manjeri Municipality, Kerala Social Security Mission’s Vayomitram Project, and the National Service Scheme units of Manjeri K.A.H.M. Unity Women’s College jointly organized a comprehensive awareness program at the Town Hall.

Inauguration: * The program was inaugurated by the Manjeri Municipality Chairperson. Legal Awareness Class: A detailed legal awareness class was conducted on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

interaction with Community Police:

The Community Police team explained crimes against elders and ways to prevent them.

Cultural Programs:

Messages were conveyed to the public through cultural programs like folk songs and dances.

Hope:

The program is expected to have created more awareness in the community about elder abuse. It is believed that the event will contribute towards reducing intergenerational conflicts and creating a senior-friendly environment at home and in society.
