Association Inauguration & Talk on    'Wetlands to Lifelines: Conserving Plant Diversity for a Sustainable Future'

The Department of Botany at KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized its formal Association Inauguration on February 17, 2026, at the Janaki Ammal Hall. The event commenced at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Faseela P., Assistant Professor and Faculty Coordinator, who set an inviting tone for the morning’s proceedings. Following the welcome, the presidential address was delivered by Dr. Usman A., Head of the Department of Botany. In his address, Dr. Usman A. highlighted the importance of academic associations in fostering a spirit of inquiry and research among students, officially marking the start of the association's activities for the academic year.​The highlight of the event was an insightful technical talk titled "Wetlands to Lifelines: Conserving Plant Diversity for a Sustainable Future," delivered by the guest of honor, Dr. Harshid P., a DST-ANRF Fellow from the KSCSTE-Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences, Kozhikode. Dr. Harshid provided an in-depth exploration of the ecological significance of wetlands, often referred to as the "kidneys of the earth." He emphasized the urgent need to protect aquatic plant species and shared practical strategies for biodiversity conservation, inspiring the audience to take an active role in environmental stewardship to ensure a sustainable future. ​The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students and faculty engaged with the speaker on various aspects of botanical research and conservation efforts. To wrap up the formal proceedings, Ms. Fathima Sherin P., the Association Secretary and student coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. She expressed sincere gratitude to the guest speaker for his valuable time, thanked the college administration and faculty for their guidance, and acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of the student body that made the inauguration a resounding success.
